Ciudad Guzmán is the capital of the municipality of Zapotlán el Grande and located about 180 km south of Guadalajara. The city is famous as cultural center because of several world-famous artists like the muralist and painter José Clemente Orozco or the famous composer Consuelo Velazquez. Intellectuals like the scientist José Maria Arreola or the historian Juan José Arreola are also from Ciudad Guzmán. La Cathedral of San José is the best known building in the city and worth a visit. The historical center shows different architectural styles like French, neogotic and neoclassic within others. Besides the cultural attractions the region offers a unique landscape with the Lagoon of Zapotlán, which is well known for its exceptional eco sport possibilities.
