Ixtapa

Most travelers who visit Puerto Vallarta wonder if there are any pre-Columbian ruins or relicts. Often the answer is no, but this is not correct. In Ixtapa, located a few kilometers to the east, 2 or three earth pyramids was found and studied about 30 years ago. The pyramids are about 15 meters tall and close to them many ceramics was found. During the next years the local government will recover all remaining artifacts and build a park around these pyramids to make them attractive for the public. Some of the found ceramics and artifacts can be seen at the Rio Cuale museum, others are stored at the government, and the C.U.C. Centro Universitario de La Costa, a subdivision of the U.D.G., Universidad de Guadalajara, also owns about 200 artifacts which can be seen in a small exposition at the theaters entrance.
