Jacotepec is the most authentic village close to Chapala. It is a quite place with basic infrastructure and some tourism offers. Many of the 1000 foreigners live in gated communities around Jacotepec, the communication between the Mexican inhabitants and the tranquil expat community is very well. Jacotepec is located at the western end of Lake Chapala and about 25 minutes from Chapala by car. Travelers visiting the Banderas Bay or Colima can use the nearby highway connecting Guadalajara with the coast and passing near the Jacotepec area. To get to the airport (GDL) it is better to use the highway to Chapala and from there the highway to Guadalajara.
