While Nuevo Vallarta to the south is a planned resort area for tourists, Bucerias as well as La Cruz de Huanacaxtle to the north are authentic Mexican villages. Bucerias features just very view hotels but offers a wide range of vacation homes, rentals and bungalows. Many villas are owned by U.S. or Canadian expats, some German and other European owners also have build their dream home in or close to this former fisher village. As Bucerias is a village with existing social structure, schools and bilingual colleges are available for the kids. Holding the second place after Puerto Vallarta for the whole Banderas Bay, it is the largest village inside the part of the Banderas Bay which is located in the state of Nayarit. Close to the central plaza a nice market with booths offering crafts and clothing from all Mexico can be visited. The beach is nice and the shelf water is the reason why the tranquil water heats up early in the year, making it a perfect playground for families and water sport enthusiasts.
