In 2007 the Mexican government through FORNATUR, the Mexican tourism department, decided to support a new tourism development, at the Riviera Nayarit, in the state of Nayarit. Consisting of three areas, one of them is Litibú, the development is planned to become the most important travel destination of the decade with about 1 Million visitors a year. Litibú is already in work and the first hotels will open in 2009. Featuring only luxury tourism, only 6 hotels are to be build together with about a few hundred vacation homes, villas and rentals surrounding a Greg Norman golf course. To make it a preferred travel destination and to be competitive with any other luxury place in the world, Litibú will be integrated completely into the surrounding natural environment. Real Estate agencies actually are selling the last homes and lots, prices are high but for investment purposes still affordable, as once open for travelers, everything around will be much more expensive. Litibú is located close to a small village named Higuera Blanca, 5 minutes north of Punta Mita and 5 minutes south of Sayulita.
