The state of Sinaloa is located at the Pacific Ocean in the northwest of the Mexican Republic. Sinaloa borders to Sonora and Chihuahua to the north and to the state of Durango to the east. Its southern neighbour is the state of Nayarit. The state is subdivided in 18 municipalities and its capital is the city Culiacan. Same as many others of the Mexican states bordering the Pacific Ocean, the economy of Sinaloa depends mainly on the tourism industry and on the fishing industry. Landinwarts agriculture is still very important. The northern part of Sinaloa borders the Sea of Cortez and intensive transportation between Baja California and Sinaloa finds place.
