Sonora is the second largest of all Mexican states and located in the northern part of Mexico, bordering the Sea of Cortez. In the northwest Sonora borders through a short stretch to Baja California, to the north it borders the U.S., to the east it borders Chihuahua and to the south to the state of Sinaloa. Due to its border with the U.S. the state of Sonora features a modern industry, manufacturing products for exportation. The fishing industry is important as well, as Sonora features a 1200 kilometers long coastline towards the Sea of Cortez. Tourism is growing fastly and many developments will provide soon fast access to nice beaches from the U.S. Sonoras capital is the city of Hermosillo and the state is divided into 72 municipalities.
