Tamaulipas is located in the northeast of Mexico, bordering the Gulf of Mexico and the U.S. state of Texas as well as the Mexican states Nuevo León to the west, San Luis Potosà to the southwest and Veracruz to the south. While the north of Tamaulipas depends on agriculture like its US neighbour Texas, the south of Tamaulipas and its economy bases on the petro chemical industry. Tamaulipas is divided into 43 municipalities with the city of Victoria as capital. While Victoria is the capital, the largest city is Tampico. While the larger cities of Tamaulipas are very productive through manufacturing and production for export, many areas of the state face problems with water supply and transport. The coastal area provides some espectacular and for tourism highly attractive locations.
