Zacatecas is one of the 31 states of the Mexican Republic. Located north of the central region of Mexico, Zacatecas borders the state of Coahuila to the north, the state of San Luis Potosà to the east, the states of Aguascalientes and Jalisco to the south and the state of Durango to the west. The economy of Zacatecas depends on its rich silver mines, agriculture and tourism. The state, subdivided into 58 municipalities with the city of Zacatecas as capital, is well known for its interesting history and its well preserved colonial style architecture. As well as silver many minerals like gold, iron, copper and zinc are available in the mountainous state.
