Campeche is located in the southern part of the Mexican Republic and borders to the Gulf of Mexio in the north east as well as to Guatemala in the south. Its Mexican neighbours are the state of Tabasco in the west and the states of Yucatán and Quintana Roo in the east. Campeche is part of the Yucatán peninsula and one of the states with the most pre Columbian and archeological sites.The population density of only 800.000 people on 56,798 square kilometers is very low in Campeche compared to most other Mexican states. The economy consists basically on agriculture and tourism. The coastal area and the cities close to the ancient monuments soon will grow faster, as the government of Mexico wants to push the development of tourism.
